2025 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness on rocky trail
Subaru of America makes some of the auto industry’s top SUVs – so if you’re debating between the 2025 Subaru Crosstrek and the 2025 Subaru Forester, you win either way. They do, however, have some subtle differences that will make one model stand out over the other depending on the driver. Kirby Subaru of Ventura breaks down their key differences.
2025 Subaru Crosstrek
The 2025 Subaru Crosstrek is a subcompact SUV and the smallest vehicle in the automaker’s lineup. But with its standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive® and 8.7 inches of ground clearance, it’s just as rugged and capable as its larger lineup-mates. And speaking of lineup, the 2025 Subaru Crosstrek comes in five trims at our Ventura, CA, Subaru dealership. Two engines are available, each paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT):
- Base trim: 2.0-liter four-cylinder rated at 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque.
- Remaining trims: 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that outputs 182 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque.
Along with its stalwart capability, the five-passenger 2025 Subaru Crosstrek boasts a spacious cabin. Passenger volume stands at 100.5 cu. ft., with cargo space also expansive at 54.9 cu. ft.
2025 Subaru Forester
Size-wise, the 2025 Subaru Forester is classified as a compact SUV, so it’s a little bigger than the Subaru Crosstrek. Also, whereas the 2025 Subaru Crosstrek received just a few minor tweaks over last year’s model, the 2025 Subaru Forester is fully redesigned. This revamp includes a redesigned exterior, a reimagined interior, and new tech features.
The 2025 Subaru Forester comes in six trims, all powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 180 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque and featuring the same drivetrain as the Subaru Crosstrek. The cabin of the Subaru Forest is also bigger, offering 110.8 cu. ft. of passenger space and max cargo volume of 74.4 cu. ft.
Technological Similarities
Both SUVs offer a nearly identical infotainment system, with most trims featuring an 11.6-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone connectivity, and Subaru STARLINK® Connected Services. The same is true on the safety side, where Subaru EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology integrates advanced systems such as Adaptive Cruise Control and Frontal Collision Mitigation.
